Accredited and Ready
Michigan Virtual for students is accredited by Cognia (formerly AdvancED). Earning accreditation from an organization like Cognia means that our online instructors, tools, services and staff meet or exceed essential standards of educational quality.
Cognia Accreditation
Cognia (formerly AdvancED) is the world’s largest education community, representing 27,000 public and private schools and districts across the United States and in 65 countries worldwide. Michigan Virtual for students was first awarded accreditation in December 2005 and reaccredited in 2010, 2016, and 2021. We are currently in the accreditation process during the 2025-2026 school year. Visit the Cognia website.
Why Accreditation Matters
- Attending an accredited school is required for entry to many colleges or workforce training programs
- Provides students with greater access to financial aid, federal loans, and scholarships
- Ensures that the quality of the school meets high standards
In addition, a school accredited through Cognia must “act with integrity in all matters” which aligns perfectly with Michigan Virtual’s core values.
