About This Course

This course is designed for new, existing, or prospective secondary administrators seeking to enhance their understanding of Career and Technical Education (CTE). Participants will learn about various funding sources available for CTE programs, the essential components of a successful state-approved CTE program, and the numerous benefits these programs offer to students. Additionally, the course will cover creative strategies for recruiting and identifying qualified CTE teachers among current staff. By the end of the course, administrators will be equipped with the knowledge to effectively support and expand CTE opportunities within their schools.

In this course, you will:

  • Define Career and Technical Education (CTE), explain its importance, and describe Michigan's vision for high-quality CTE programs
  • Outline key historical milestones and legislation that have shaped CTE, and explain the organizational structure and roles within CTE administration
  • Explain the funding mechanisms for CTE, including state and federal sources, and identify additional funding opportunities
  • Describe the key components of successful CTE programs, outline the process for establishing new programs, and develop strategies for recruiting qualified CTE teachers
